eUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR DIGITAL ECONOMY AND SOCIETY

Günther H. Oettinger is European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society since November 1 2014. On February 10 2010 Mr Oettinger became European Commissioner for Energy and from July 1 to October 31 2014, he was Vice President of the European Commission. From 2005-2010, Mr Oettinger was Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg (Germany) and since 1984, a Member of the Regional Parliament ("Landtag"). 

Mr Oettinger was the leader of the CDU Landtag group from January 1991 to April 2005. A lawyer by training, he became actively involved in politics during his adolescence.

Mr Oettinger is a member of the Federal Executive Committee and of the Steering Committee of the CDU Deutschlands.
